In 1993, the members of the Yemassee Community asked then Mayor, Jack Moore, if Yemassee could have a festival like the other communities in the area. With the Yemassee Community being a key figure in the evolution of shrimp baiting and it's members refining it to become what it is today, it was only fitting that Yemassee have a shrimp festival.
The festival is evolving each year just as shrimp baiting has. If there is one thing we know about ... it's shrimp! This is the 11th year of fun, games, crafts, and the best food you can imagine! All this is topped off with a Mud Run that is one of the best in the area. The Lighted Boat parade is a beautiful event enjoyed by all. A fairly new event that is catching on quick is the Kiddie Parade, growing by leaps and bounds. Opening night will finish up with a fireworks display that is second to none! Our theme this year "Celebrating A Decade of Fun" is the most appropriate way to describe our festival!
